Published NFT™ — How Do I Copyright An eBook On The Flow Blockchain?
Under the copyright laws in almost every country in the world, once you create a work you own its copyright.
Although it’s not a requirement, it is a good idea to put a copyright notice in your work. This informs others that you are the copyright owner in which you created the work. The form is:
- The symbol © (letter C in a circle); the word “Copyright”; or the abbreviation “Copr.”, followed by
- The year of first publication, followed by
- Your name.
Many countries also have a national copyright registry. With Published NFT your eBook will be registered with a blockchain copyright. This will create a time stamped public record of your TX/Contract/Token ID address for copyright protection when the NFT is minted. These are needed requirements to sue someone in U.S. Federal Court for copyright infringement. There is no fee for registering a single work on the Flow blockchain.
There use to be a huge difference between digital eBooks and actual books. When a regular book is sold, there is usually no restriction on what can be done thereafter: you can buy, resell it, rent it… as long as you don’t extract the content and distribute illegal copies.
Most eBooks (iBooks, Amazon, Kobo, etc) come with a license and DRM that prohibits and inhibits renting, buying , selling and/or trading. In most cases, you are unable to transfer the ownership to other users (renting and gifting).
Now we have blockchain eBooks! Published NFT has built these services on the Flow blockchain. Users can now purchase NFT eBooks, magazines, comics etc. and resell and trade NFT eBooks on the Published NFT or third party marketplaces. Users can even rent eBooks out to other users to create a passive income and become there own bookstore.
